Winter break can be magical. You get a chance to recharge and spend extra time with family. But with kids out of school or guests in town, it's important to make a plan before the downtime takes a dull turn. Luckily, there are plenty of local events to keep your household entertained for the next 2 weeks!

ottawa park ice skating

Ottawa Park has an open air ice rink that's undergone extensive upgrades in the last few years. To head to the rink, go north from Bancroft on Ottawa Pkwy. It's on the first road to the right. the great art escape

The Toledo Museum of Art will be hosting its annual winter celebration The Great Art Escape from December 29th through January 2nd. Over that time, there will be a wide range of events and temporary exhibitions. Check out the full calendar here.

toledo's public art

The city of Toledo manages more than 80 works of public art. Many are displayed in the downtown area and throughout other Toledo neighborhoods. Plan a driving tour to view some of these amazing pieces in person. Browse The Art in Public Places Field Guide to get started.

holiday treehouse tour

Here's your chance to tour the Cannaley Treehouse Village at Oak Openings! On Tuesday, December 28th from 1:00-4:00 PM, all four treehouses and and three tent platforms will be open for self-guided tours with staff available to provide information. Reservations are not required. Full details here.

promedica's nights of lights

Promenade Park is the perfect spot for a festive evening! ProMedica's Nights of Lights include Santa visits, character meet-and-greets, hot chocolate, and dessert food trucks. The final one is scheduled for December 26th from 4:00-6:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public. View the event page here.

drive-thru & walking christmas lights

There are 43 stops on the Ohio Holiday Lights Trail with 8 in Northwest Ohio. Download the trail map here. Of course, the Toledo Zoo Lights before Christmas is a beloved tradition for many families. The Zoo Lights feature more than one million lights and 200+ illuminated animal images. The event is open through December 31st. Indian Creek Zoo, DTE Energy Music Theatre, and the Lucas County Fairgrounds are all hosting drive-thru holiday shows. 

pokagon state park toboggan run

The Pokagon toboggan is open during the weekend, with or without snow, until February 27th. So there's plenty of time to plan your trip to Angola, IN! The hours are extended over winter break and the toboggan is available everyday except Christmas between December 18th and January 2nd. Toboggan rentals are $20/hour. More info here.
